Parasite

The struggling Kim family lives in a cramped semi-basement apartment in Seoul, barely surviving through temporary jobs. Their fortunes begin to change when Kim Ki-woo gets a job tutoring Da-hye, the daughter of the wealthy Park family. Seeing an opportunity, Ki-woo and his sister Ki-jung manipulate their way into the Parks’ household by taking jobs as an art tutor, chauffeur, and housekeeper, while pretending not to be related. Their plan seems perfect until the former housekeeper, Moon-gwang, returns and reveals that her husband, Geun-sae, has secretly been living in a hidden bunker beneath the mansion.

When the Kims discover the secret, their carefully built deception turns into a desperate struggle for survival. Moon-gwang threatens to expose them, but the situation becomes even more dangerous when the Parks unexpectedly return from their trip. During their son’s birthday celebration, Geun-sae escapes and attacks the Kims, fatally stabbing Ki-jung. Witnessing Mr. Park’s disgust toward Geun-sae and his attitude toward poorer people, Ki-taek finally snaps and kills him before disappearing. The incident destroys both families and exposes the deep resentment created by the extreme divide between wealth and poverty.

After the massacre, Ki-taek hides inside the mansion’s underground bunker, where he secretly communicates with Ki-woo through Morse code. Ki-woo dreams of becoming rich enough to buy the house and rescue his father, but the final scenes reveal him still living in the same semi-basement apartment, showing how unlikely his dream is. *Parasite* ends as a powerful commentary on class inequality, poverty, desperation, and the seemingly impossible barriers between the rich and the poor.
