Whispers of Fate

Tang Lici enters the martial world with a secret connected to another realm; he is both powerful and intelligent and difficult for other people to understand. Because of this, he comes to be known as the White Fox Prince of the Central Plains. Following a tragedy concerning his elder brother, Fang Zhou, Tang Lici is falsely accused of his death and Liu Yan, his close friend, thinks that he has committed the murder. Suffering from the betrayal, Liu Yan turns against Tang Lici and eventually founds the Fengliu Parlor. He uses the deadly Bloody Ghost Nine Hearts Pill to control martial artists, and Tang Lici quietly investigates the drug in order to find the truth.
The investigation soon involves Tang Lici in a risky confrontation. He collaborates with Chi Yun, Shen Langhun and some other martial artists. They come up against assassins, hidden enemies and competing martial groups. Tang Lici also discovers some clues concerning the Thirteen Towers and the Fengliu Parlor. The more people get drawn into the conflict, the more difficult it becomes for him to escape from his past. Liu Yan keeps blaming him, even though Tang Lici puts his own life at risk in order to protect others. As he progresses, Tang Lici starts to understand Fang Zhou’s expectations of him. Gradually he ceases to live only for the past and instead decides to protect the people nearby.
The final outcome of these events is a clash which reveals the hidden conspiracy; Tang Lici manages to get rid of the main agent who was causing the disturbance, but this solution is accompanied by heavy personal losses since some of his nearest associates die. In the face of deep sorrow, Tang Lici then discovers a possible way of reversing the course of time by means of the mysterious Inverted Dream apparatus. In order to prevent the imminent destruction of Central Plains, he decides to switch on the device at the cost of his own life. This action brings the temporal sequence back to a point before the first tragedy, so that his companions can once again lead peaceful lives, even though he is no longer there. Tang Lici’s final sacrifice thus ensures the future that he had been trying to protect.
