The Blue Road (2026) Korean-Japanese crime thriller poster featuring the lead detectives in a dark mystery setting.

Plot

A brutal murder in Tokyo leaves investigators completely stumped. The victim’s body is found twisted, with Korean words written right next to it. Detective Inose (Eita Nagayama) goes to the scene and tracks down a strange man: Kim Seok (Son Suk-ku), a South Korean detective in Japan for a joint investigation. Another body turns up in Korea with Japanese writing, using the same clues. The killer is clearly moving between the two countries. Kim Seok asks Inose to work with him, but Inose refuses. He’s determined to get to the bottom of this and will do whatever it takes.
The more victims that turn up, the darker the case becomes. The detectives are forced to cross language and national boundaries. They end up in Japan, where they meet Li Yoon-ok (Kim Shin-rock), a Korean-Japanese businesswoman. She’s very sharp and questions their decisions and limits. They also come across Seo Hyun-tae (Jung Jae-young), a major player in the Japanese criminal world. On the government side, we have Yoon Soo-kyung (Choi Sung-eun), who is at odds with Inose. Every new lead brings another piece of the jigsaw, but it also raises fresh questions. There’s a strange man who listens to bones cracking through his headphones, making the killer’s modus operandi even more unnerving.
Set in the lead-up to the 2002 Korea-Japan World Cup, the investigation extends beyond Seoul and Tokyo. Kim Seok and Inose are forced to work together despite their mutual distrust. The trail they follow takes them through dangerous situations and unfamiliar territory, and they start to see how much their paths intersect. The messages, the staged bodies, and the hidden agendas remain extremely difficult to decipher. The Blue Road is their hunt for the man responsible for the murders.
