Plot
A salient characteristic of Jiang Xinbai is his inability to recognize faces, a condition that he cannot conceal. As the principled leader of the Central Security Bureau, Jiang is resolutely committed to dismantling the illicit Zornia herb trade. During the course of his investigation, he encounters Yan Nanxing, a peripatetic physician distinguished by an unusual physiological phenomenon: she undergoes a complete transformation in appearance once every month. Their initial interaction is marked by a complex interplay of suspicion, unforeseen incidents, and mutual attraction. Jiang’s prosopagnosia precludes him from recalling her visage, while Yan deliberately withholds the knowledge of her periodic metamorphosis.
Subsequently, Jiang and Yan embark on a joint investigation into the Zornia trade, during which they are confronted with a series of atypical circumstances and formidable adversaries. Yan’s propensity to alter her appearance frequently introduces complications at critical junctures. Despite his persistent inability to recognize faces, Jiang gradually develops a foundation of trust in Yan. Concurrently, Yan comes to understand the underlying cause of Jiang’s reserved demeanor. The evolution of their relationship is shaped by a succession of disputes, collaborative efforts in perilous situations, and intervals of tranquility. Notably, their repeated matrimonial unions serve as catalysts for further complications. The antagonists they encounter are invariably linked to longstanding secrets associated with the proscribed herb.
A critical juncture arises when Minister Pei administers an incomplete antidote to Yan, resulting in her transformation into an elderly state. Anticipating that Jiang would be unable to accept her altered appearance, Yan elects to depart. Subsequently, Jiang experiences a significant relapse; however, the ensuing medical intervention restores his visual faculties. Upon recovery, Jiang initiates a search for Yan, retracing his steps to their initial meeting place, guided by information provided by a young beggar. Upon locating Yan, Jiang is able to recognize her immediately. Their reunion is marked by Yan’s reversion to her original form. Ultimately, they formalize their union in the presence of their acquaintances and commence a new phase of life together.
