Love Between Lines

Hu Xiu’s life is shattered when her fiancé suddenly departs. She joins a murder mystery game in hopes of escaping the situation. The game drops her in a frigid landscape in Republican China. There she meets a brilliant NPC called Qin Xiaoyi, who has a mysterious role. Hu Xiu is soon attracted to him, even though she knows he is imaginary. She goes back to the club and plays the game again. She becomes increasingly inquisitive about the man behind the character with each meeting.
Outside the game, Hu Xiu met Xiao Zhiyu, an architect with a prosperous career. She quickly learns that he is the actor who plays Qin Xiaoyi. Their genuine meetings are so different from their rehearsed meetings. Xiao Zhiyu is quiet and inscrutable; Hu Xiu is frank and energetic. But their common work and growing interest draw them together. Their duties in the game also keep bringing them back together. Soon, feelings begin to blur the barrier between fantasy and reality. But Xiao Zhiyu bears old family wounds and hidden troubles.
When those secrets are revealed, it just makes their relationship more difficult. Hu Xiu learns of Xiao Zhiyu’s tragic history and his feud with Pei Kang Hua. The individual is linked to a building collapse in the ancient city, then turns his attention to those close to Xiao Zhiyu. The danger comes to Hu Xiu, with a kidnapping and a warehouse fire. Xiao Zhiyu finds her just in time and rushes her away to safety. When the truth is revealed, Pei Kang Hua is brought to justice. Hu Xiu and Xiao Zhiyu decide to live together, no longer hiding behind fictional characters. They move in together, adopt a stray kitten and continue their careers.
