Plot
Seok-woo, a busy fund manager, boards a high-speed train from Seoul to Busan with his young daughter Su-an to visit her mother. Their journey turns into a nightmare when a mysterious zombie outbreak spreads across South Korea. An infected woman boards the train just before departure, and passengers soon begin transforming into violent zombies. Seok-woo, Su-an, Sang-hwa and his pregnant wife Seong-kyeong, baseball player Yong-guk, and other survivors struggle to stay alive as the infection spreads through the train. When they reach Daejeon, they discover the city has already been overrun, forcing them back into another desperate fight for survival.
As the survivors move between train cars, they face both zombies and selfish passengers who are willing to sacrifice others to save themselves. Sang-hwa dies protecting the group, while Yong-guk loses Jin-hee after the ruthless Yon-suk repeatedly puts his own survival first. When the train is eventually forced to stop near East Daegu, the remaining survivors cross the zombie-infested tracks and search for another locomotive. Seok-woo, Su-an, Seong-kyeong, and a homeless man become trapped beneath a derailed train, but the man sacrifices himself so they can escape. They finally reach a cargo train, where the infected Yon-suk attacks Seok-woo. During the struggle, Seok-woo is bitten.
Realizing he will soon become infected, Seok-woo takes Su-an and Seong-kyeong into the locomotive and teaches them how to operate the train. He says an emotional farewell to his daughter before locking himself outside the cabin. As the infection takes over, he remembers Su-an as a baby and eventually falls from the train to his death. Later, Su-an and Seong-kyeong reach a tunnel near Busan, where soldiers prepare to shoot them, believing they are infected. Before they can fire, Su-an begins singing the song she had prepared for her father. Hearing her voice, the soldiers realize they are still human and allow them to pass.
